A meth mum with an “all-consuming” addiction was busted with $20k of drugs in her undies after her operation was exposed. Now she’s been locked up.

Breaking the ice: Meth use in SA

A woman who was labelled a “parasite” by a magistrate has been jailed for four years for dealing meth to pay off a drug and fuel her “all consuming” addiction.

Claire Louise Henderson’s life had been taken by drugs when she was found with a significant meth stash in her underwear.

During sentencing on Friday, the District Court heard police had Henderson under surveillance on February 5, 2021.

“Police observed you in a carpark on Marion Rd at Plympton handing an item to a man,” Judge Heath Barklay said.

Police pulled her over and searched her car.

They found 616g of GHB, also known as fantasy – valued between $1232 and $4312 – and $1500.

Henderson was arrested and taken to the watch house.

“During the course of a body search, police located two ounces of methamphetamine in separate plastic bags which you had secreted in your underwear,” Judge Barklay said.

The court heard the 55.6g of methamphetamine, which was 44.6g pure, was valued at up to $22,240 if sold by the gram.

Police then searched her house and found 75g of fantasy, valued between $150 and $525, digital scales, plastic resealable bags and tick lists.

The Christies Beach woman pleaded guilty to commercial drug trafficking and two counts of drug trafficking.

The court heard Henderson, 28, was selling drugs to fund her own habit and to pay off a $30,000 drug debt owed by her partner.

Henderson was slammed by Magistrate Susan O’Connor in 2021 for treating home detention like a “party room”.

“Think about the community sitting behind me asking what are you doing in criminal courts to allow these people who do so much harm due to the fact the whole drug trafficking trade means that you’re a parasite and preying on the misfortunes of other people,” she said.

“Your only interest in life is getting cheap money, cheap drugs and a cheap fix.”

The court heard Henderson gave birth to her daughter at 17 but lapsed into heavy drug use after losing custody of her at 21.

Judge Barklay said Henderson had an “all-consuming” addiction to methamphetamine and fantasy and her prospects of rehabilitation were poor.

The court heard Henderson failed to attend court last August for sentence and a warrant was issued for her arrest, before she was remanded in custody in January.

Henderson was sentenced to four years jail, with a non-parole period of two years.

The sentence was backdated to January 23.
