Old Reynella attempted murder accused faces court for allegedly stabbing partner

A southern suburbs man has faced court charged with stabbing his partner at home after an argument at an Adelaide city nightclub.

A 29-year-old Old Reynella man has faced court charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his partner.

The Christies Beach Magistrates Court heard the couple of six years had been at a CBD nightclub on Saturday night where they had argued.

The accused man's partner – a man in his 30s – told police the pair had argued at the club and the victim had called the accused a “stooge” before pushing him off a chair.

“On getting home (the victim) knew that (the accused) would be angry with him so he barricaded the door to his bedroom,” a police prosecutor told the court.

“Around 3.30am (the accused) arrived home with a friend, he was really angry and kept pushing his way into the room saying things such as ‘I’m going to slit your throat’ and ‘I’m going to kill you in your sleep’.”

Around 7am the victim went to the fridge for water and when he returned to his bedroom the accused allegedly entered the room holding a large chefs knife.

“(The accused) lunged at him with the knife aimed at his chest area, he put up his hand to block the knife and sustained a deep laceration to his left hand,” the police prosecutor said.

“(The accused) left the bedroom and (the victim) could hear him washing the knife and putting it away.”

Police and paramedics attended the property and the victim was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre where he received treatment for the wounds to his hand.

The accused was issued an interim intervention order barring contact with his alleged victim.

Magistrate Lynette Duncan ordered the accused remain in custody while a home detention report is prepared.

He will face court again on Monday.
