More cases of possible dog baiting in Woodcroft and Noarlunga reported to RSPCA

Dog owners are again on high alert after suspicious meet was found at two different southern suburbs parks. It comes after more than 50 reports of dog baiting have been reported to the RSPCA this year.

Going back to work with an "overly bonded" dog? That's a problem

Dog owners are again on high alert following three more incidents of suspicious meat found in southern suburbs parks.

This week, meat including pieces of offal were found at parks in Woodcroft, Old Noarlunga and Seaford.

The discoveries come after a number of suspected attempted dog baiting cases in recent weeks in both the southern and northern suburbs.

Rachelle Askew found pieces of what “looked like intestines” while walking her five-month-old golden retriever-labrador puppy at Woodcroft Farm Reserve on Wednesday.

“It was very similar looking to the photos I’d seen of what had been found at Port Noarlunga and Seaford in the last few weeks,” she said.

“I’ve heard of it happening at other places of late which is why I was being extra vigilant luckily.

“I just don’t understand how people could be so cruel, I don’t get it at all.”

Mrs Askew put the meat in a bin at the park and reported it to SA Police and Onkaparinga Council.

An RSPCA SA spokeswoman confirmed more than 50 reports had been received regarding threats of baiting and potentially baited meat this year.

Of those reports, 16 were received in August and 12 in July.

“It is very concerning as it can lead to terrible suffering and potentially fatal consequences for animals,” the spokeswoman said.

“Anyone found guilty of deliberately poisoning animals faces penalties of up to $50,000 fine or a maximum 4 years imprisonment.”

Suspicious meat was also found at Furler Reserve, Old Noarlunga and a playground at Cove Circuit, Seaford.

An SA Police spokeswoman said anyone who finds evidence of dog baiting in their area should immediately report it to police.

“Anyone who believes their dogs have been poisoned are urged to make a report to police,” she said.
