Wirreanda Secondary School will undergo a major $11 million transformation this year.
The Morphett Vale school will have 16 new learning spaces built and several of its existing buildings – including its technical studies, home economics and art and design rooms – will be upgraded.
It will also have its gymnasium transformed into a performing arts centre.
Another classroom for Year 7 students will also be constructed, the school’s reception area will be extended and ageing infrastructure demolished.
Wirreanda Secondary School was one of three schools in South Australia to trial the introduction of Year 7 students into high school at the beginning of the 2020 school year, ahead of a statewide transition in 2022.

Education Minister John Gardner said he anticipated that construction at Wirreanda Secondary School would begin later this year and was scheduled to be completed by December 2021.
“This project will expand capacity at the school to accommodate the transition of Year 7 into high school, while also providing much-needed refurbishments to existing facilities,” Mr Gardner said.
“This project forms part of our $1.3 billion Education Capital Works program, delivering a generational upgrade of schools across South Australia.”
