A Happy Valley woman claimed she was just visiting a friend when she was found in possession of drugs after leaving a known drug house.
Madalaine Marie Roberts pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled drug and equipment to use with the drug in March.
The 39-year-old and her partner were pulled over by police who had seen them leave a Seacombe Gardens premises which had been under surveillance.
A police prosecutor said the officers could see several syringes through the window of the car.
“Her handbag was searched and they located a syringe with an unknown liquid in it, a black purse containing many zip lock bags, suspected drug paraphernalia and a small vial with suspected drugs inside,” he said.
“Those drugs have been tested and were methamphetamine, GHB and MDMA.”
The court heard Roberts had prior convictions of drug possession in 2013 and 2018.
“So you’ve got all these drugs in your handbag and you’ve got a needle and you’ve got quite a bit of history,” Magistrate Teresa Anderson said.
“By the sound of it, you’ve just gone to a known drug house and picked up drugs and just left that house.”
But Roberts said the incident was not as it appeared.
“We were just visiting our friend up there, we weren’t actually picking up anything,” she said.
Roberts was convicted and ordered to enter into a $500 12-month good behaviour bond with eight months of supervision by a community corrections officer.
