Kieran John Adams guilty of assaulting Noarlunga Centre emergency department nurse

A freshly released criminal has blamed sexual harassment from his male landlord for sending him into a drunken anxiety spiral and assaulting an emergency department nurse.

A southern suburbs man has avoided further jail time after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a nurse after he claims his landlord came on to him.

Kieran John Adams appeared via video link in the Christies Beach Magistrate Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker on August 14 at the Noarlunga Centre.

Police Prosecutor Dianne Langton told the court the victim was working in the emergency department when Adams was brought into the treatment area at around 7pm.

“He was clearly intoxicated and very unsteady on his feet,” Sgt Langton said.

“Adams started walking around the department when he asked a doctor for a sandwich, the victim then tried to redirect the male back to his cubicle.

“Once back at the cubicle, Adams shaped up to punch the victim stating ‘don’t treat me like a dog’.”

The victim told the accused his threats of violence would see him vacated from the premises before Adams took several more swings at the nurse, making contact with his shin.

Adams was arrested and remained in custody since the incident.

The court heard Adams had only been released on parole on June 11 for separate matters, which terminated 11 days before the assault.

Adams’ counsel acknowledge he had a troubled relationship with alcohol and was having issues with his landlord.

“He was having some difficulty with who he calls his housemate and landlord who is homosexual orientation and Mr Adams has explained he received interaction with his landlord that was unwanted,” she said.

“This causes him anxiety and causes him to resolve that anxiety by excessive alcohol consumption.”

Magistrate Teresa Anderson sentenced Adams to a three month and two week suspended sentence and placed on an 18 month good behaviour bond.
