Onkaparinga Council has released its final design for a $1.3 million nature playground earmarked for a Morphett Vale reserve.
The plan for the Wilfred Taylor Reserve playspace, which has been compared to the popular nature playground at Morialta, is now out for public consultation.
It includes a sand and water play area, a 3m tower and slide with rope climbing and balancing activities, a sensory garden and a cultural nature trail running alongside Christies Creek which will feature Kaurna artwork.
The State Government is funding the $1.3 million playground.
The council has agreed to contribute a further $900,000 for “supporting infrastructure”, such as carparking, access roads, lighting and irrigation.
More than 60 trees will be planted as part of the project and 90 more carparks — including disabled parks near the playground’s entrance — and bus parking bays will be created.
An area catering for up to 100 additional carparks on days when events are held at the Wheatsheaf Rd park will be provided along its southern edge.
Onkaparinga is also developing a masterplan to overhaul the 60ha reserve, which currently
includes a soccer pitch, rugby field, basketball stadium, netball courts, horse riding areas
and a BMX track.
Residents can give feedback on the proposed design at a free barbecue at the reserve on April 14, from noon to 2pm, or by visiting the YourSay section of the council’s website until April 17.
