A teenager who police allege kicked and spat on officers outside a city nightclub has no memory of the incident, a court has heard.

Caitlyn Jade Kear, 19, applied for bail by video link in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, after a boozy night ended in her arrest.

The court heard Kear was at the Dog and Duck nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“A security staff approached police on Hindley Street, stating that they (Kear) had spat at his face after he evicted her from the venue,” the police prosecutor said.

The court heard Kear attempted to walk away from police.

“Following arrest, she became aggressive with police – kicking the police officer in the right hip,” the police prosecutor said.

“When she was taken to the city watch house, she was taken to the padded cell.

“During that escort she spat at a police officer multiple times, on one occasion the spit making contact with his right thigh,” the police prosecutor said.

Kear is charged with two counts of assaulting police. She is yet to enter any pleas.

Christina Chrisakas, for Kear, told the court Kear had recently been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.

“She may potentially have a defence to this charge if she was acting as a result of her borderline personality disorder,” she said.

“It is very uncharacteristic of her.”

The court heard Kear had finished Year 12 and was working full time as a chiropractic assistant.

“Ms Kear instructs that she only consumed about six drinks on that occasion, she had gone out with friends,” Ms Chrisakas said.

“Obviously it appears that something has happened on this occasion … more information will be needed in relation to her medical state at the time, in addition to the footage from the police.”

The court heard Kear had no prior criminal history and could live with her father at Aldinga Beach.

Magistrate Nick Alexandrides granted Kear supervised bail, with a condition not to consume alcohol or drugs.

The charges were adjourned until July.
