A young woman admits she’s “wasted seven years of her life” by being high on drugs, a court has heard.

Brittany Elise March, 31, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and driving while on meth.

The court heard on April 19, 2022, police were tasked to the carpark of Bunnings Reynella after reports of an intoxicated driver.

“When police arrived they found the defendant asleep in the driver’s seat,” the police prosecutor said.

March submitted to an alcohol test and a drug test, the alcohol test returned a negative reading.

Checks on March’s licence showed she had been handed a court issued disqualification from April 2021 as well as November 2021.

“CCTV confirmed she was the driver of the vehicle when it entered the Bunnings carpark,” the police prosecutor said.

The court heard March has previously been convicted of drug driving, possessing controlled drugs and possessing equipment and was sentenced to 18 days imprisonment suspended, for a 12-month good behaviour bond.

March’s defence counsel asked the court for a lengthy suspended sentence, given there has been no further offending since the date in question.

“Ms March is someone who had a very pro social life, it’s just been in the last seven years that she has started to become an attention to police,” said the lawyer.

“What’s caused her downfall was the end of a seven-year relationship, from there she was introduced to fantasy, methamphetamine … She acknowledged the last seven years have been a waste and she wants to better herself.

“She has realised she needs professional help.”

Magistrate Briony Kennewell sentenced March to 30 days imprisonment, suspended and placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond due to March already submitting to a detox program.

“You’re doing all the right things, just make sure you see it through,” Magistrate Kennewell said.

Convictions were recorded.
