A popular tourist destination on the Fleurieu Peninsula is primed for a huge $500k transformation with the construction of seven new glamping tents and a new cellar door and restaurant.

Allusion Farmstay and Vineyard in Yankalilla is located at the bottom of Yankalilla Hill and already boasts a wide variety of accommodation.

The 32-acre hobby farm has currently The Old Cellar House, which sleep two to six people, two self-contained cottages for two to five people and two glamping-style domes for two to four people on offer for visitors.

It’s now planning to open seven new glamping tents, convert the existing cellar door into a dwelling, and build a new cellar door and restaurant.

The glamping tents will be limited to a maximum of two guests and a maximum length of stay of five days, all complemented by shared amenities in the form of a shower block and a shared dining/kitchen building including laundry.

“Our plan is to have five in total for a start and then we actually have a dam that is being dug out and re-done that will have two more built up in there,” said TJ Marks, the owner of Allusions.

The existing cellar door would be converted into a dwelling, and the proposal includes the construction of a new cellar door and restaurant.

Ms Marks, 38, said that her vision was to become more of a family-friendly environment.

“Our farm is fabulous for large families and groups wanting exclusivity and space,” she said.

“We have 150 chickens roaming around that the kids can play with all day.”

Ms Marks hoped the new development would put Allusions on the tourism map.

“We’re really looking forward to having something else (in the region),” she said. “We feel like we’re becoming a piece of the tourist puzzle. There’s enough in the region to keep our tourists here.”

The renovated cellar door and restaurant will now cater for up to 40 patrons and will operate within the hours of 11:00am and 9:00pm on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The cellar door would display and sell wine made on the property, while also offering wine tastings and meals showcasing local produce.

Pending council approval, Ms Marks was hoping to have the first five glamping tents completed in three to four months.

“We’re aiming to open the whole thing by the end of the year,” she said.

“The glamping will probably open as a soft opening but once we have the cellar door done we’ll do a big one to celebrate.”

Submissions are open to the public until Thursday.
