A new McDonald’s restaurant is coming to Hove after the City of Holdfast Bay approved plans for the $4m project on Brighton Rd.

The new restaurant will include a dual lane drive thru, delivery room, McCafe and PlayPlace.

A McDonald’s spokeswoman said they looked forward to joining the Hove community.

“The restaurant will play an active role in the community through providing jobs, training, and development opportunities for local employees, as well as supporting local causes and groups that are important to our customers and people,” she said.

“McDonald’s Hove will be fully equipped with solar panels, a heat recovery water system, and LED lighting.”

Tenders are open until January 22 for construction of the multimillion-dollar project.

The spokeswoman said the new restaurant would inject more than $5m into the local economy, creating 100 jobs during construction and a further 120 jobs once fully operational.

The McDonald’s will be built at 346-348 Brighton Rd, near the Cecelia Street intersection and across from Hove Foodland.

Some local residents expressed concern about traffic congestion in the area on a local Facebook group.

“Traffic is going to be a problem! No consultation with local residents is very annoying!” Trudi Pope said.

A City of Holdfast Bay spokeswoman said there was no community consultation because it wasn’t “specifically prescribed under the Planning and Design Code”.

“The state government’s Planning and Design Code did not require the restaurant to undergo community consultation prior to its assessment,” she said.

The development comes after Jarvis Group announced late last year it would open a new multimillion-dollar Toyota dealership in Somerton Park, doubling the size of its existing site on South Rd, which has been acquired by the state government to make room for the final stage of the North-South Corridor road project.
