Macca's drive-thru confrontation turns ugly

A new McDonald’s restaurant has open in the northern suburbs of Adelaide, with more than 100 jobs up for grabs.

The new location on Village Terrace in Blakes Crossing is projected to see more than $5m injected into the local economy with a modern decor, dual lane drive-thru, McCafe and PlayPlace.

The new location is fitted with solar panels, a heat recovery water system and LED lighting and recycled material wheel stops in the carpark.

Blakes Crossing joins the portfolio of licensee John Walsh, who also currently owns Elizabeth, Elizabeth City Centre, Gawler, Gilles Plains, Kadina, Northfield, Nurioopta and Smithfield.

Mr Walsh said he was excited for the new opening and the opportunity to provide new jobs, training and development opportunities.

“The new restaurant will provide customers with a friendly and convenient place to access food and drinks, whether they’re popping in for a quick coffee or staying for lunch,” Mr Walsh said.

“As a local business, we are proud to support local charities and groups that are important to our customers and people, including Angle Vale Women’s Football Club, South Gawler Cricket Club and South Gawler Football Club.

“We look forward to serving up our great tasting, great quality menu and providing feel good moments for our customers.”

The new store is a part of McDonald’s national commitment to open 100 new restaurants and remodel half of its existing restaurants by the end of 2025, investing more than $1 billion into the economy and creating more than 40,000 new jobs.

Mr Walsh said that as a key employer in the northern regions, he is committed to providing outstanding training and development opportunities for all employees.

“McDonald’s invests millions of dollars into training and development initiatives each year, offering nationally recognised certifications in the food and retail sectors,” Mr Walsh said.

“We are passionate about supporting the professional development of our people and providing workplace skills applicable to any career.”

It comes after rats were found inside the Hindley St McDonald’s, with a Shoppies union rep refused access earlier in the month.
