A man will stand trial accused of showing up unannounced to a young boy’s home and indecently assaulting him on multiple occasions.
Scott Leland McIntosh, 48, pleaded not guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday to maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child and indecent assault.
Court documents allege Mr McIntosh indecently assaulted the child by touching his penis on multiple occasions last year.
It is further alleged that the child was under the age of 14 years at the time of the offences.
If found guilty, the maximum penalty for maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child is imprisonment for life.
The court previously heard the alleged victim was the son of a person Mr McIntosh knew.
Mr McIntosh had his home detention conditions removed in court in February so he could have more freedom with his employment as a self-employed electrician.
Joseph Henderson, for Mr McIntosh, told the court the alleged victim could be adequately protected with the non-contact clauses and there had been no breaches so far.
“If my client was to contact or attempt to contact (the alleged victim), he knows precisely where he would go,” he said.
A prosecutor was opposed to the application, saying the alleged victim and his family had “genuine concern” Mr McIntosh would try to contact or visit them if released from home detention.
“There were times during the alleged offending where the accused would arrive at their property unannounced,” the prosecutor said.
Mr McIntosh, of Pooraka, was ordered to report to a police station every week and not engage in child related work and not to approach within 50m of the alleged victim’s high school.
On Wednesday, Magistrate Brian Nitschke committed Mr McIntosh to the District Court for arraignment in July.
