Tegan Lee Martin jailed for violent Port Lincoln home invasion on ex-boyfriend Jacob Tiller

A woman and her accomplice seeking retribution tasered and viciously stabbed her ex-boyfriend – and it’s not the first time she’s violently assaulted him, a court heard.

An aspiring beautician and her accomplice brutally attacked her ex-boyfriend in a violent home invasion – and it’s not the first time she’s assaulted him, a court heard.

Tegan Lee Martin, 24, and her co-accused – who cannot be named as he was a youth at the time of offending – concocted their sinister revenge plan after a car accident.

During sentencing, the District Court heard Martin had previously been in a relationship with the victim, Jacob Tiller, for approximately five years.

Martin and her co-accused, who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, rushed through Mr Tiller’s unlocked sliding door on October 6, 2021 in Port Lincoln.

The duo opened the bathroom door where Mr Tiller was and Martin used a taser on him, while her co-accused hit him on the elbow with a metal pole.

Mr Tiller pushed past the duo and attempted to run to the back door but fell to the ground.

“(Your co-accused) stabbed Mr Tiller with the knife to the side of the head. You continued to use the taser on Mr Tiller,” Justice Julie McIntyre said.

Mr Tiller was taken to the Port Lincoln Hospital with an 8cm laceration to the side of his head.

The cut extended through the skin, muscle and onto the bone and required emergency surgery and 10 stitches.

Martin, of Port Lincoln, pleaded guilty to serious criminal trespass and causing harm with intent.

During sentencing submissions in November, Stacey Carter, for Martin, told the court her client and the victim had a “toxic and turbulent” relationship.

“As you can imagine, there was a lot of immaturity in respect of their relationship … he was unfaithful to her and she found that difficult,” she said.

“They would break up, get back together, break up, get back together.

“There were a lot of rumours, messages … gossip back and forth and so that turbulence between the two has been consistent and ongoing.”

The court heard Martin – a cleaner and aspiring beautician – avoided a conviction after she assaulted Mr Tiller in an earlier incident.

Ms Carter said Martin’s co-accused was on a motorbike behind Mr Tiller when he braked heavily, causing the motorbike to hit him from behind.

The court heard Martin was in a car following behind them and proceeded to make some “girly punches” towards Mr Tiller.

Genevieve Spencer, for the prosecution, said the duo’s offending was premeditated and it appeared they were planning to “get revenge” on the victim for his role in the car accident.

“Following the car accident, a witness has heard, on more than one occasion, the accused and co-accused indicating that they were going to go to the victim’s house, recover money from him and make threats against him,” Ms Spencer said.

Martin was sentenced last week to two years and five months jail for her active role in the offending, which left the victim with post-traumatic stress disorder and continuing head pain.

Due to Martin’s remorse and rehabilitation from her drug addiction, she was handed a non-parole period of 10 months.

Her co-accused received a suspended sentence in the Youth Court.
