The son and daughter of a man who died in a horror crash on the Eyre Peninsula have shared their heartbreak at losing their caring and fun-loving dad who would give the “shirt off his back to a stranger”.

Gary ‘Lacky’ Trezise, 63 died when his car crashed into a tree at Coulta on Tuesday morning.

His death has prompted an outpouring of emotion from family and friends, including son Adam Trezise who said he would miss his father’s warm embrace.

“The way he would bury his head into my chest, wrap his arms around me and squeeze and he would never let go until you did,” he told The Advertiser.

“His hugs felt like the safe place you never knew you wanted, but you always needed.”

Lacky was a proud father of three, but it was the way he loved his six grandchildren that Adam remembered so fondly.

“He loved spending time with his grandkids,” he said.

“He would play with them for hours and hours and not get bored.”

Lacky’s daughter, Macayla Trezise posted to social media on Tuesday night saying she had “no words” following his tragic death.

Later that evening, she shared another touching post about her father alongside pictures with his children and grandchildren.

“The first man to steal my heart, the man that taught me more than he’ll ever know,” the post read.

“I still have no words and waiting for this to just be a real bad nightmare.

“Not only were you the best dad I could ever ask for, you were, hands down, the best papa ever.”

The next morning, Macayla was still in shock.

‘”I've woken up and still just can’t believe yesterday was real,” another post read.

“My heart hurts, I love you so much Dad.”

Tributes continued to flow for the Eye Peninsula local.

Jayne Trezise shared an image of Lacky alongside family members during the summertime.

“Without you Lacky, this bunch of nut jobs wouldn’t be here. R. I. P, may you now find peace,” the post said.

Tricia Schulz thanked Lacky for being a “dad/grampy/ass kicker when we all needed it”.

Tojo Mullan reminisced on “legendary road trips and fishing”.

“He took us all under your wing and took us places we would have never seen,” the comment read.

Lacky grew up and lived in Cummins and worked as a railway labourer.

In his free time, he loved to fish.

Adam said one of his favourite memories with his dad was going out in the tinny at Farm Beach.

“One day it was just he and I … We were out there for ages and had hardly caught a thing, but just to be there with my dad was more than enough for me,” Adam said.

“We talked about everything from cars, to trucks, to people we hadn’t seen in ages and most importantly life.”

Adam praised his father’s attitude towards life, which served as an inspiration for the way he carried himself forward.

“He would give the shirt off his back to a complete stranger if it would make them a little warmer,” he said.

“He said something to me once along the lines of ‘don’t let anyone tell you what to do, you’re a smart and capable person who gives it all in everything he does, trust your gut and most of the time you’ll be right’. That’s the way I’ve tried to live my life ever since.”
