A popular fashion chain is set to open in Port Lincoln’s old Target store in time for the approaching holiday season.
Australian retailer Cotton On Group has secured the empty shop space at 52 Liverpool St, which has been vacant since Target’s closure earlier this year.
Retail giant Wesfarmer issued the closure as part of a major company restructure which saw 167 of their target stores close nationwide.
The store will be the second Cotton On on the Eyre Peninsula with the closest currently in Whyalla almost three hours away.
The building’s landlord, Kym Clarke Construction said its Liverpool St site had been empty since Target’s closure with the new tenants yet to confirm an exact opening date.
“We’ve been liaising with some people from Cotton On in Victoria,” a Kym Clarke Construction representative said.
“As far as we know, they’re organising through their own contractors for the store to be fitted out and are getting some stuff in there ready to open as soon as they can.
“I’m hoping that we’ll know more within the next week.”
The Cotton On Group has started recruiting for the new outlet seeking a store manager and casual sales assistants with full availability during the Christmas holidays and peak sale periods.
In its job advertisements, the chain which prides itself on affordable fashion, offers “substantial benefits and discounts” across its brands including Cotton On, Supre, Typo, Rubi Shoes, Ceres Life and Factorie for successful applicants.
The ad, posted to a community Facebook page, gained traction from brand fans and prospective job seekers.
“Fingers crossed they have some kid’s stuff and they stay! It’s a pain only having Kmart really for kids basics and stuff,” said one Facebook member.
“I had to Google Cotton On as I did not know what is sold in your shops,” said another member.
