A historic Eyre Peninsula mansion is undergoing a massive transformation with its next chapter set to be unveiled in time for the upcoming wedding season.
New owners Cobi and Jarrad Christian purchased Boston House overlooking Boston Bay earlier this year and have now revealed their grand plans.
The 5ha property was listed for sale for $1.5m in 2019 by its longest standing owners Ron and Heather Campbell.
After 44 years the couple was excited to keep the home in the family, selling it to their grandson and his wife.
“We’re ecstatic,” Mrs Campbell said.
Mrs and Mr Campbell are keeping a watchful eye on the Lincoln Hwy project as Mr and Mrs Christian embark on the major refurbishment.
After purchasing the 130 year old property, Mrs Christian said they were immediately bombarded with wedding bookings for 2021/2022 with the property set to fill a gap the market.
“The property has held many events and weddings over the past 45 years,” Mrs Christian said.
“It was previously utilised for accommodation purposes and we wish to continue this use of the property but update the facilities and bring new life into the home, enhancing its original character and charm.”
Mr Christian’s full time job as a landscaper has come in handy for the external redevelopment with the front yard almost ready.
While Mrs Christian spends most days at the property preparing the interior for impending guests.
She said it had been a “massive project” flipping the traditional two-storey red brick into Cobble + Stone, a white, natural light infused venue while retaining its heritage.
“It’s crazy to see it all starting to come together,” she said.
“We’re keeping all of the original tiled flooring and light fixtures and structurally aren’t changing much but we will turn it back to its original floor plan as it had so many changes over the years.
“We still have some grand plans for the cellar and back end of the property including refurbishing the cottages into guest accommodation and transforming the old cobblestone barn.
“But (we) still have so many exciting plans for the site – not just weddings, so watch this space.”
The refurbishments have revealed relics from the home’s history including hand prints discovered behind old wallpaper and original Minton Shakespearean tiles in the fireplaces.
Cobble + Stone will open to its first guests this month before tackling the remainder of the project in 2022.
