A young business owner is making strides in the Port Lincoln hair scene with her thriving salon forced to relocate to a larger premises due to popular demand.

The dos and don'ts of cutting your hair in isolation

After just three years in business a Port Lincoln hair salon has been forced to expand due to popular demand.

At 25, Emily Barnes works six days a week to keep up as her salon Instyle Hair goes from strength to strength at new, larger location which she hopes will become a hub of local hair and make-up services.

“The business grew really quickly and the space that I had was quite small,” Ms Barnes said.

With three additional contracted hair stylists on board, the salon has relocated to 10 Lincoln Highway and true to its name, stylish it is.

Ms Barnes wanted to emphasise a textural aesthetic focus for the new salon, as opposed to the Californian style the previous Lewis Street address.

With beautiful, big cottage style windows, leaking unlimited natural light throughout the entire space, it’s easily recognisable for the home it once was.

Change always has its risks and Ms Barnes was worried her new location might lack the foot traffic she once had, however, she has been pleasantly surprised by her first fortnight of operation.

“I thought ‘will I get many walk-ins’ not having people walking past and just popping in to make appointments in the future, but I’ve had so many,” she said.

With the help of partner and some minor ‘salon friendly’ renovations, the girl-boss gave herself just two days to transfer her business from one shop space to the other and commenced usual trading hours the following Monday.

The business neighbours local watering hole and popular accommodation Port Lincoln Hotel and stands in an unmissable location on the main roundabout as you enter the town.

As the business continues to expand Ms Barns is seeking interested makeup artists to share her space hoping to transform it into a hub of local hair and makeup talents.
