One of the Eyre Peninsula’s smallest towns is set for an “exciting” makeover, with millions of dollars of work slated to restore shops, and activities to add to itineraries.
The District Council of Cleve have announced a series of upgrades for Cleve and Arno Bay to improve streetscapes, enhancing liveability and entice more visitors.
“We know it’s time to invest in regeneration of our community and economy,” Mayor Phil Cameron said.
“Recent population trends tell us that we have to act, and local government has to lead the way.
“I think we will see some truly exciting commitments around Cleve district.”
The council has invested more than $100,000 in shopfront, veranda and facade upgrades for Cleve’s Main and Fourth streets. Arno Bay’s Tel El Kebir Terrace will also receive a facelift.
Grants of up to $2500 are available to local businesses, with more than $50,000 in main street grants already issued.
Other improvements include a $2.54m playspace and a $700,000 revamp for the Cleve Showgrounds RV parking area.
Arno Bay won’t miss out either, with a $600,000 1.2km coastal walkway slated to adjoin the boat ramp carparking area and Turnbulls Beach.
“I’m really pleased to see these projects getting under way,” Cr Cameron said.
“We’re continuing to work on growing events and local assets for all to enjoy, and importantly for the future regeneration of our towns and district with new jobs and families.”
Council says the projects will generate 100 jobs, bring in more than 100 families and see the area hit a milestone population of 2000, while still encouraging local and domestic visitors.
