City of Port Lincoln council have adopted a $7.2m plan to redevelopment their iconic foreshore after months of community feedback.

The newly unveiled plans provide a contemporary design which increases the visual appeal, physical experience and versatility of the space for both local users and visitors.

The redevelopment is designed to boost opportunities for the local tourism economy, increase accessibility to the popular area for all users and improve local assets.

City of Port Lincoln Mayor Brad Flaherty said the new plan would add exciting new elements to the iconic foreshore area, providing something for people of all ages and abilities.

“We have more spaces for youth to socialise and connect, improved areas for families to visit and play, increased accessibility for tourism operators and upgrades to our walkways along the foreshore and jetty,” he said.

“Importantly, the plaza upgrades incorporate critical developments which will mean better access for people with disabilities and safer pedestrian zones for children and the elderly.”

The redevelopment is one of the 57 projects across the state awarded from the Local Government Infrastructure Program.

Other highlights include a new nature play space which will include in-ground trampolines, a large slide, rope climb pods, a junior playspace and sand, rock and water play. Plus, the jetty upgrades will see the existing infrastructure repaired, and activate the jetty for vessels and a potential pop-up cafe.
