Plans for 5G phone tower for Maslin Beach lodged with Onkaparinga Council

Plans for a 25m tall 5G phone tower in a coastal southern suburb have been lodged with the local council. See the details.

Plans to build a 25 metre tall mobile phone tower at Maslin Beach have been lodged with Onkaparinga Council.

The application – submitted on behalf of Stilmark Holdings – proposes to build the tower and associated equipment at a residential Sherriff Rd property approximately 360m from the main residential area of Maslin Beach.

A report prepared by SAQ Consulting said the $200,000 “telecommunications facility” would be used by Optus to provide improved 4G and 5G coverage to the area.

A 5G tower is slated for a Maslin Beach block.

“The proposed facility will enable Optus to provide its full range of 4G and 5G services to the area, with significant improvements to the Maslin Beach residential area and the area generally around the proposed location, including to Sherriff Rd and Old Coach Rd,” it read.

“These improvements cannot be made by way of changes or upgrades to the existing facilities as they are simply too far away and as such a new structure is required.

“It is worthy of note that the maximum levels of electromagnetic energy from the proposed facility is estimated at 3.10 per cent of the exposure limits mandated by the Commonwealth Government.”

The proposal includes construction of the tower in the northwest corner of the land approximately 11 metres from the northern boundary of the property adjacent to Sherriff Rd.

It also includes nine panel antennas mounted on the top of the tower, a four-bay equipment cabinet, security fencing and a new access track into the property.

Plans for the development will be available for viewing on the Onkaparinga Council website until April 20.
