The new 1675-student Angle Vale birth-to-Year 12 school will take in students from a wide catchment area north of Adelaide.
The new school on Riverbanks Rd is due to open in 2022.
Proposed zones from the Education Department show students will be drawn from Thompson Beach to the northwest, taking in Virginia, Two Wells and Lewiston through to parts of Munno Para West south of the school.
Mark Oliphant College, Gawler and District College and Angle Vale Primary School will see changes to their existing zones under the proposal.
“With population growth in the outer northern suburbs of Adelaide projected to grow substantially in the coming years, this new school will meet new demand and ease enrolment pressure on neighbouring government schools,” Education Minister John Gardner said.
“We are confident that local families and the community will embrace this new local education hub that will offer modern, state-of-the-art facilities for their children to learn in.
“Development of these proposed zones has been based on sophisticated analyses, which considers a range of factors including accessibility by road, current and projected demand, existing school locations and current and future housing developments.”
The project is expected to create about 450 jobs, with South Australian-based Sarah Constructions managing the build and engaging local subcontractors and suppliers.
The Education Department recently reached a formal agreement with the City of Playford to share some facilities at the school with the council, including sporting fields and all-weather courts, cementing the new school as a community hub for local families.
Along with Aldinga and Whyalla, the Angle Vale school is one of three new public schools being built in SA.
Meanwhile, Felixstow Community School in the inner northeastern suburbs has been asked to prioritise local enrolments with creation of a catchment zone.
The zone is part of a plan gazetted last week to manage capacity of the school, which has about 80 students.
Entry will be restricted to 15 new students in reception and there will be no automatic right of entry for siblings of existing students if the family lives outside the zone.
Felixstow grew from the former Rose Park Family Unit which offered an alternative learning experience within the public school system.
Felixstow’s zone is within the East Marden Primary School zone. Families in the overlapping area can apply to attend either school.
East Marden has about 700 students.
