Paramedics attempting to assist a would-be powerlifter passed out at a Paralowie OTR were met allegedly with a barrage of haymakers and spit, a court has heard.

Tyson Norhadi Flink, 28, of Salisbury North, on Monday applied for home detention bail in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court, charged with assaulting an emergency service worker and spitting on them.

Then, while his lawyer was arguing to have him released on bail, Mr Flink interjected and asked: “Can I just plead guilty?”

The court hear Mr Flink, a forklift technician, was passed out at the service station next to a bottle of wine on April 18 when paramedics attempted to help him before he “became aggressive towards” them.

Police prosecutor John Taliangis told the court Mr Flink told the paramedics to leave before he allegedly spat on one of them and attempted to punch them but missed.

The court heard Mr Flink was at large for almost two months before he was arrested and positively identified by the alleged victim.

Mr Taliangis said Mr Flink was a “poor candidate for bail” and revealed his prior, and similar, history.

“Police were called to the Brahma Lodge Hotel (in November last year) and (Mr Flink) was intoxicated, shouting and swearing,” Mr Taliangis said.

“He dropped his backpack, went forward at police in an aggressive manner saying, ‘let’s go’ and gestured to fight.”

The court heard Mr Flink was on a suspended sentence and under corrections supervision for that offending and the latest allegations, if proven, would breach that suspension.

Magistrate Christopher Smolicz ordered a home detention report but warned against Mr Flink’s problems with authority.

“Obviously there is some kind of concern that this offending is repeated, on the facts,” he said.

“And it’s concerning the defendant displays aggression towards people in authority.”

Mr Smolicz ordered the home detention report and remanded Mr Flink to reappear later in July.
