A young northern suburbs firefighter, ambulance officer and loved community member has died, breaking the hearts of those who knew him.
The Salisbury Country Fire Service branch revealed on Thursday on social media that Daniel ‘Pagey’ Page had died on Tuesday, posting a touching tribute to the much-loved community member.
“It is with extremely heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of one of Salisbury’s greats, Lieutenant 2 Daniel Page,” they wrote.
“Pagey always had time for everyone around him and was the first to put his hand up when someone needed help.
“His favourite things in life were triple double macchiatos, exploring the countryside with friends and family, working on vehicles or his next project, working incredibly hard to achieve more and being part of SAAS to help others.”
The post explained that Daniel’s passing leaves behind “his adoring wife Rebecca, parents Ian and Jillian, brother Michael, brother in law Chris, plus extended family”.
The post detailed Daniel’s achievements with the CFS, which he joined in 2017, and “we knew from day one he would go on to achieve great things”.
“Pagey worked his way up from Firefighter, to Senior Firefighter and lastly Lieutenant 2 before his passing,” the post said.
“He was due to receive his National Emergency Medal for the part he took in fighting the 2019-2020 bushfires.
“Pagey was also an Ambulance Officer with the South Australian Ambulance Service (SAAS) and was awarded a commendation for his work in evacuating residents of a nursing home on the River Murray during last year’s floods.”
Daniel had recently been accepted to Flinders University to become a paramedic and “from the stories told, his amazing, kind and empathetic nature has touched many in the service and the patients he cared for as well as saved”.
The post said Daniel was the caretaker of “our beloved truck 58” and was in the middle of fixing a leaky master cylinder, which was promised to be finished in his honour, which was completed by Fraser Fire and Rescue.
The post finished with a touching tribute that read “You will be forever missed Pagey and the world was a much better place with you in it.
“Rest easy mate, we will take it from here.”
The post received hundred of comments and reactions, with members of the community sharing their condolences or loving memories of Daniel.
Local MP John Fulbrook commented “My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time”.
Greg Hastings wrote “only the good die young … RIP to a proper hero”.
Mark Williams reminisced on his own meeting of Daniel, posting “Met him when he came on board as an apprentice – crashed his car the night before his first day at work – still made it in to set a huge impression.
“Grew into a young man, hugely generous with his time, set his goals on some worthy endeavours which speaks volumes of him and his family.
“Such a loss to all lucky enough to have spent time with him.”
