Two parrots stolen from a family-owned aviary shop in the northern suburbs have been returned after a social media hunt.
Police arrested a 17-year-old Hampstead Gardens girl and a 36-year-old Enfield woman over the Sunday theft from Camsal Aviaries at Elizabeth South.
Owner David Billing discovered the pair of green Quaker parrots – worth $450 each – had flown the coop during a busy period on Sunday.
The two women were captured on CCTV and Mr Billing took to Facebook on Monday night to help identify them.
Information had been passed on to police by Tuesday, which ultimately led to their arrest.
Mr Billing said the immense response from fans and customers online led to the bird being returned.
“We’re thankful for everybody that’s helped with that,” Mr Billing said.
“We always get a good response and a good clientele and there’s a lot of bird community people who don’t like this kind of thing as well.”
The women have been charged with theft and bailed to appear at Elizabeth Magistrates Court in March.
