A spud gun was allegedly fashioned into an illegal firearm by a Smithfield man who has been charged with several offences after a police search of his house.
Brett Jamie Harradine, 46, made no application for bail in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on charges of possessing firearms without a licence and without identifying marks, manufacturing guns or gun parts and owning ammunition without a licence or permit.
Mr Harradine was also charged with cultivating cannabis and three counts of failing to comply with a bail agreement.
The firearms charges carry with them a maximum term of seven years behind bars or a $35,000 fine.
Police alleged Mr Harradine had “numerous” homemade firearms, parts, mechanisms, ammunition and tools used to make guns at his Charlotte Street house when it was searched early on Sunday afternoon.
Pictures of two of those alleged homemade firearms provided by SA Police showed their crudeness.
One of them had been fashioned out of a vintage Lone Star Spudmatic spud gun connected to a piece of metal pipe and with a threaded rod roughly welded onto the tip.
The court heard prosecution would need five months to prepare a ballistics report on the guns before Mr Harradine could again face court.
Magistrate Justin Wickens remanded Mr Harradine to reappear in November on the cannabis charge and again in February on the firearms charges.
