A Munno Para man has been released on bail a week after he was arrested for contacting the complainant in rape charges against him.

Shane Anthony Gray, 21, was on Wednesday released on bail while facing charges of engaging in sexual intercourse with a person without consent and preventing a person from giving evidence and failing to comply with a bail agreement.

Mr Gray last week faced the Elizabeth Magistrates Court via video link on the then-fresh charges of contacting the complainant.

The court heard Mr Gray called the woman and told her to "drop the charges".

The alleged call came in contravention of bail conditions imposed on him three days earlier which prevented him from calling her.

The home detention application was opposed by prosecution

Police allege the rape occurred in Adelaide on April 10 before Mr Gray made the call on April 13 from an unknown number.

The police prosecutor told the court an investigation led to the number being traced to Mr Gray.

“He has persuaded or attempted to prevent (the alleged victim) from giving evidence at or producing evidence at a judicial proceeding,” she said.

“(The alleged victim states) she received a phone call from an unknown caller ID … she answered the call and said, ‘hello this is (name)’ and the caller said, ‘it doesn’t matter who this is, drop the charges’.”

The prosecutor told the court the alleged victim recognised the voice as being Mr Gray’s.

Magistrate Mark Semmens, after having ordered a home detention report last week, allowed Mr Gray to be released on strict bail conditions.

Mr Gray did not enter pleas to any of the charges.
