SA Police officer charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a weapon

A police officer has been suspended as he is investigated for an alleged brutal attack during the arrest of a now convicted wannabe bikie drug dealer.

An SA Police officer allegedly used weapons afforded to him in his role to carry out a brutal assault on a now-convicted drug runner and wannabe bikie during his arrest.

Officer Aidan Allt has been suspended by SA Police as he faces four charges of aggravated assault relating to the arrest of Jordan Ljubicic at Golden Grove last year.

He is now one of 11 police officers “currently facing criminal charges for on-duty behaviour”, according to SA Police.

Mr Allt, 35, of Salisbury, first appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on the charges in January and again on Monday.

According to court documents provided to The Advertiser, Mr Allt allegedly used his police issued pepper spray and baton to assault Ljubicic.

The charges stemmed from Ljubicic’s June arrest during which he was found robbing a Golden Grove home and in the possession of a commercial quantity of fake Xanax tablets.

According to the documents, the assault charges were allegedly aggravated because Mr Allt allegedly “abused a position of authority in committing the offence”.

“It is further alleged that … Aidan Allt used or threatened to use an offensive weapon (pepper spray and a baton) to commit or when committing the offence,” the documents alleged.

No pleas have been entered to the charges and Mr Allt is currently on a $500 bail agreement.

Magistrate Roderick Jensen on Monday described the allegations as “reasonably serious” and denied an appeal by Kevin Raison, for Mr Allt, to grant him simple bail.

Ljubicic, 24, was initially charged with drug trafficking, serious criminal trespass, damaging property and dishonestly taking property without consent.

Those charged were slapped on Ljubicic after police caught him red handed pillaging a Golden Grove home.

After he was busted his car and phone were searched and police found 173 fake Xanax tablets, $1275 cash and drug dealing related texts on his phone.

A police prosecutor told the Elizabeth Magistrates Court in June last year Ljubicic had been booted from his family home because he was “so affected by drugs he was considered dangerous”.

He swiftly entered a guilty plea to drug trafficking and Judge Joanne Tracey in December sentenced him to a two year, five month and seven day term of imprisonment which was wholly suspended.

Ljubicic received a two-year good behaviour bond for the trespass and damage offences.

During sentencing, Judge Tracey said Ljubicic was believed to have associated with an outlaw motorcycle gang in an attempt to “give him standing in the community” which extended to him having a now-blacked out bikie tattoo on his cheek.

A SAPOL spokeswoman told The Advertiser Mr Allt had been “suspended from duty” after an “internal investigation”.

“South Australia Police takes all reports of alleged excessive use of force seriously,” she said.
