Another young Adelaide man has been charged with trafficking Xanax. He’s the third person to face court charged with selling the drug in a month.

Tiser Explains: How a criminal trial works

A 24-year-old man with a “massive drug problem” was robbing a Golden Grove house when police caught him “red handed” before stumbling on a haul of Xanax pills and cash, a court has heard.

Jordan Dany Ljubicic on Monday appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court by video link charged with drug trafficking, serious criminal trespass, damaging property and dishonestly taking property without consent.

Mr Ljubicic, of no fixed address due to his parents booting him from their home because he was “so affected by drugs he was considered dangerous” according to the police prosecutor, made no pleas to the charges.

Magistrate Brian Nitschke said Mr Ljubicic would face an uphill battle in trying to defend the trespass, property damage and theft offences, which allegedly occurred at Golden Grove on Saturday.

“The case against him is very strong,” he said.

“He’s done for all money on the break, let’s be frank.

“He was busy taking other items from the house when the police arrived, I wouldn’t have thought his hands could be any redder.”

The court heard when police attended the Golden Grove home Mr Ljubicic told them he was working for a “repo company and repossessing goods from the house”.

The police prosecutor said when Mr Ljubicic was arrested at the house he was also found in possession of 173 Xanax tablets and $1275 cash.

Mr Ljubicic became at least the third person charged with trafficking Xanax since May 18, with an 18-year-old Elizabeth Vale man facing court that day and a 19-year-old Mawson Lakes man appearing in court on May 30.

Vageli Dimou, for Mr Ljubicic, made an application for home detention bail to specialist accommodation support program Arches to be considered.

The police prosecutor said bail was not opposed, but expressed concerns about Mr Ljubicic’s “aggressive demeanour”.

Mr Nitschke ordered a home detention report to consider allowing Mr Ljubicic out on bail.
