A roundabout must be built urgently at an Angle Vale junction where three people have been killed in the past 12 years, a Playford councillor says.
Government traffic data for that period has recorded a total of 48 vehicle crashes at the intersection of Heaslip and Curtis roads.
Cr Clint Marsh told The Messenger he was concerned there would be no state funding for a roundabout until further housing was constructed in the area.
On his council Facebook page this week, Cr Marsh said the community had “suffered enough damage to vehicles, injuries to people and sadly loss of multiple lives”.
He said the government should not wait for “future growth to be established before a shovel is used to turn soil”.
The State Government referred a call for funding to the Federal Government’s Black Spot program, following agitation by Cr Marsh and two local MPs – Nick Champion (federal Labor member for Wakefield) and John Gee (state Labor member for Taylor).
However, the request was rejected in April last year.
Angle Vale Residents Association vice-chairman Garry Nau said a friend of his was lucky to survive after her Holden Calais was struck at the intersection earlier this week by a vehicle coming from Curtis Rd.
“If it wasn’t a new car, she’d be gone,” Mr Nau said.
“If she was in a Barina, she would not have survived.”
He said the association supported “anything to make the intersection safer”.
“It’s a notorious place,” he said.
“It’s such a hotspot, so many near misses. People need to start paying attention to the stop signs – they need to slow down.”

Mr Gee said it was now “time to act”.
“I don’t care who has to fix this, and I don’t think the residents care either, we just want it fixed,” he said.
“We need to act before another family loses a loved one.”
The state Transport Minister, Stephan Knoll, has been contacted for comment.
