A Redwood Park pizza bar which has given plenty to the community for 25 years, has received a little love in return.

The uber popular Pizza Bite has been named the north and northeast’s favourite following a poll of Messenger readers.

Owner Les Hanna said it was nice to receive community support, after years of sponsoring local footy and cricket clubs and being part of the Live on Levi campaign which helped raise over $14,000 for the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

“We do a lot for the community,” Mr Hanna said.

“They have supported the local business which supports the community. I’m really happy.

“I really appreciate the support, we are definitely overwhelmed.”

Pizza Bite’s generosity has also extended to giving away free pizzas to Modbury and Lyell McEwin Hospital nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’m not a millionaire but I can afford to do it,” he said.

Perhaps the key to Mr Hanna’s success is that running Pizza Bite never feels like a chore.

“I don’t feel like I’m at work, I’m at home,” he said.

“You get to hear (customers’) stories. You grow up in the community.”

Mr Hanna first launched the Milne Road business back in 1996, continuing his parents’ legacy who had stores in Salisbury (Park Terrace Pizza Bar) and Hawthorn (El Dorado Pizza Bar), after migrating from Lebanon.

“As soon as he could get into business he bought his first pizza bar” he said of his father John.

“He had some of the first pizza bars in Adelaide.

“It’s been in the family about 50 years now.”

Les churns out “hundreds” of pizzas each day, including the “Les’ Special” with pumpkin and gourmet bacon.
