Parents unaware of porn left at Playford Primary School toilets

Students and families were left unaware of a series of bizarre school toilet invasions after which porn, condom wrappers and a blonde wig were left behind.

Concerned parents of students at schools in Adelaide’s north where “bizarre and concerning behaviour” in their toilets occurred have expressed dismay after being left in the lurch about what happened.

Twenty-one-year-old Craigmore man Matthew Healy escaped conviction after pleading guilty to charges relating to three incidents at Playford Primary School and Playford College in March and April.

The Elizabeth Magistrates Court heard Healy unlawfully entered the schools’ grounds at night and twice damaged toilet blocks when entering them before pornographic images were found taped to the cubicle walls, condom wrappers were left on the floor and a blonde wig and pink bra were abandoned.

A police investigation into the incidents led to Healy who, when police attended his home, was allegedly found in possession of child exploitation material.

No plea was entered to that charge and he will face court on it in November.

The mother of students at Playford Primary School, who asked to remain anonymous, told The Messenger she was “disappointed” the Education Department and school had not made parents immediately aware of the incidents.

“We have not received any correspondence … I (was) disappointed (about) not knowing what went on,” she said.

“I feel sick just thinking about it.”

Several other parents told The Messenger they were seeking information about the incidents, but by Friday morning had not been informed.

The Messenger on Friday morning asked the Education Department and Education Minister Blair Boyer if parents would be notified and by Friday afternoon a notification was eventually issued.

“There was a delay in notifying parents until today to ensure accuracy of information, given a related matter is still before the courts,” a department spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said the matters had been kept private “while police were conducting their investigation or while the matter was before the courts”.

The spokeswoman said no students were exposed to the pornographic images, condom wrappers, wig, bra or any other materials, and “additional security patrols” were put in place.

The Education Department was in the midst of an audit into the security standards of state schools.

Playford College was contacted for comment.
