A passionate player has confronted the individuals he believes were responsible for hacking his beloved northern suburbs golf course to bits.
The player, who has not been named, posted a video of him approaching the possible vandals and asking them if they had damaged a nearby green.
The footage shows the grass hacked up with at least 25 different gouges taken out of the Playford Lakes green.
The video emerged on social media and has so far been viewed more than 10,000 times.
A SA Police spokeswoman said the matter was being investigated and the perpetrators could face criminal charges.
She said it had been reported to have occurred on Monday evening by “four male youths”.
“The perpetrators would be charged with property damage,” the spokesperson said.
The maximum penalty for property damage is 10 years behind bars.
City of Playford councillor Clint Marsh said he was tired of seeing “heartless” vandals “destroying” public assets.
“I just hate when someone chooses to damage a public asset that so many others enjoy,” Mr Marsh said.
“Some people just have a way of living that destroys assets and it’s totally irresponsible.
“If you want to damage some sort of turf then go to your own backyard.”
It was understood the damage been had been estimated to be about $2000.
The course greenkeeper had since repaired the damage and the course remains playable and open to the public.
Mr Marsh said he wanted to see police track down and prosecute the alleged offenders, or the offenders come forward themselves.
“I would love to see the authorities get involved in this now that there’s some footage,” he said.
“I would hope the individuals hand themselves in, accept the behaviour shouldn’t be tolerated and should pay the price of repairing the golf course.”
