A $12 MILLION shopping centre featuring a supermarket, cafe, hairdresser, pharmacy and medical centre will be built as part of a new housing development at Stebonheath Rd, Penfield.

Developer AV Jennings will begin construction of the multi-million dollar centre, titled Eyre Village, next month at the corner of Stebonheath Rd and Petherton Rd.

Ten speciality stores, including takeaway food outlets, will be built at the site, but details about specific tenants have not yet been confirmed with leasing agreements not yet signed.

However, a Foodland store, comprising a fresh fruit and vegetable section, organics range, a health and wellbeing product line, and general groceries will be built at the site.

About 150 jobs will be created at the new supermarket once it is complete.

AV Jennings SA manager Brian Virgo said the supermarket would be built to service residents at the Eyre Penfield development, but hoped visitors from surrounding suburbs would also use it.

The housing estate will feature about 2000 news homes upon completion.

“Eyre is progressing well with the community growing rapidly, new homes under construction and work well underway on the creation of new parks and gardens,” Mr Virgo said.

“Shopping at Eyre Village will add to the high level of amenity and convenience offered to residents living at Eyre, Penfield and the surrounding suburbs.”

One hundred jobs will be created during construction of the centre, with a further 180 expected to become available through operations at the site when it opens in May.

Drakes Supermarkets general manager Bob Soang was excited to open another Foodland — the 37th in the state — at the development site in Penfield.

“Drakes is a community business which supports locals and prides itself on having our heart in the communities in which we operate,” Mr Soang said.

“Our store, Eyre Village and the Eyre development are all good examples of positive local developments, which add to the convenience and choice on offer for the community.”
