When she started threading eyebrows seven years ago, Nilofar Abbasi could never have predicted how popular her services would become.
Her Mawson Lakes business – Afghan Makeup Artist – was voted SA’s best brow bar in the latest Messenger ‘best of’ poll.
After receiving hundreds of nominations and more than 23 per cent of votes in the competition, Mrs Abbasi, 26, said she was so happy to win.
“I’m very thankful to my customers, they’ve done a lot for me and they’ve been willing to make me the brow queen in Adelaide and I’m so happy,” she said.
“I just love doing eyebrows.”
When threading clients started requesting more advanced brow treatments like tattooing and microblading, Mrs Abbasi rose to the challenge.
“It wasn’t that popular at the time but then I started having customers coming to me from other places and the work was shocking to me,” she said.
“It was so expensive for people to have it done and then it hadn’t turned out right for them so that encouraged me to learn it so I could help people.”
Since then, Mrs Abbasi has kept her prices the same despite being one of Adelaide’s most in-demand brow artists.
“My job is not about the money, I love making people feel beautiful,” she said.
“People work so hard for their money and I want my services to be reasonable for everybody.”
Glenelg salon Embellish Beauty took out second on the list with Brow Friends Forever in Unley coming a close third.
