Luke Boyd-Pearce jailed for trafficking methamphetamine at Valley View

A painter thought his quick reaction to a police raid had him covered but it all came undone after he divulged his secret meth hiding spot.

Addict unrecognisable after transformation

A painter who was caught with a significant amount of meth during a police raid wants to kick his drug habit once released.

Luke Daniel Boyd-Pearce, 36, was overheard concealing his secret drug hiding spot to his partner while in custody.

The Adelaide District Court heard police attended a Valley View address on November 17, 2019 after receiving information that drug dealing was occurring there.

“When you opened the front door it was apparent that you had been aware of the police presence and were attempting to hide incriminating evidence,” Judge Anthony Allen said during sentencing.

Police found 25.7g of a substance, of which 16.7g was methamphetamine, as well as $1000 cash and two mobile phones.

“Whilst you were in custody you were overheard speaking to your partner, Kiera Scott, effectively telling her that you had divested yourself of the plastic tub by moving it to the neighbouring property,” Judge Allen said.

Police found the tub, containing 12.7g of methamphetamine, in the neighbouring yard the next day.

“This is over an ounce and a half and represents a not insubstantial amount of this terrible drug,” Judge Allen said.

The Pennington father pleaded guilty to drug trafficking.

The court heard Boyd-Pearce had previously worked as a painter and hopes to return to work once released.

The court heard Boyd-Pearce started smoking methamphetamine from the age of 19 and had used it ever since.

“It is your goal when you are ultimately released from custody to remain free of drugs and start afresh,” Judge Allen said.

Judge Allen sentenced Boyd-Pearce to four years and three months jail, with a non-parole period of two years and seven months.

“The trafficking of methamphetamine, a drug, as you would be well aware, inflicts so much misery in our community,” Judge Allen said.

The sentence was backdated to December 23, 2021.
