A strangulation charge brought against a local footy journeyman accused of choking a woman he met on an online dating site has been dropped.

The now-dropped charge was laid against North Haven man Marc Oliver Cox, who continues to face charges related to alleged filming of a woman performing sex acts on him.

Prosecutors officially withdrew the charge of choking, suffocating or strangling a person in a domestic setting against 39-year-old Cox, as foreshadowed at a previous appearance.

He continues to face charges of indecent filming of a person older than 17, distributing invasive images, aggravated trespass and aggravated assault.

The court on Friday heard the strangulation charge was contested by Cox before it was withdrawn.

Previously, Magistrate Jon Wells had heard the dropped charge related to Cox allegedly strangling a woman he met on an online dating site to the point she passed out.

The continuing charges relate to the same woman, with court documents alleging Cox carried out the various offences at Paracombe between December 1, 2021 and July 3, 2022.

A prosecutor told the court in December Cox allegedly took secret photos of the woman while performing sex acts on him, and then sent them to members of her family after their relationship dissolved.

“During the course of the relationship he is alleged to have photographed an indecent act, and there is another photograph where he is having intercourse with the complainant,” he said.

“The (woman) claims she at no stage gave permission for those photographs to be taken.”

Cox handed himself into police in July and spent about four months behind bars on remand before he was granted “unusual” bail to visit his dying dad in hospital.

After having a week under his unusual bail circumstances, Cox was granted home detention bail.

Cox played SANFL league and reserves football for West Adelaide, Port Adelaide and Norwood before bumping around amateur leagues, representing Fitzroy, Salisbury North, Gepps Cross, Payneham Norwood Union, Echunga, Freeling, Virginia, North Clare and Jervois football clubs.

No pleas have been made to the remaining charges and he will next face court in March.
