A Golden Grove man charged over the death of Salisbury skydiver Mick O’Brien has for the first time fronted court.

Jeff Kesterson Carter, 31, on Tuesday appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on charges of causing death by dangerous driving and driving without due care.

No pleas were entered to the charges during the appearance that came a little more than a month after Mr O’Brien’s death.

Mr O’Brien was crossing the street out the front of his Salisbury home when he was hit by an orange Ford Focus about 2pm on April 12.

Police will allege Mr Carter was driving that car and that he was doing so in a “manner which was dangerous to any person”.

They will also allege he drove the Ford without due care.

Neighbours of Mr O’Brien remembered him as a well-loved and intelligent ex-military and civilian skydiver.

“He was the most intelligent man. He knew so much about everything,” one neighbour who knew Ms O’Brien for 40 years said.

Outside of court Mr Carter did not respond to questions from the media about the incident.

His lawyer requested an adjournment given it was his first appearance.

Magistrate Ben Sale granted the adjournment for Mr Carter to appear again in July.
