He was at large for weeks, faced court within 17 hours of being arrested, and now a truck driver who crudely bashed a man with a golf club has pleaded guilty within a year.

The assault, which was carried out by Globe Derby Park man Travis James Williams Fuller in April last year, left David Pentland in a critical condition.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court almost a year later, Fuller pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated causing serious harm with intent in relation to the attack.

The court heard a charge of attempted murder, which Fuller originally faced, had been withdrawn in lieu of the causing serious harm plea.

According to previously released court documents, Fuller carried out the violent bashing on Peacock Rd at Elizabeth Downs before fleeing.

They believed he made his way through Globe Derby Park after the attack and was able to avoid their detection for weeks before he was arrested in early May.

Previously, neighbours told The Advertiser they heard sickening screams on their street before coming out to find Mr Pentland fighting for his life.

One neighbour said her son had investigated what was happening and was met by Mr Pentland in a “pretty bad” state and that he was “gargling”.

Fuller, 40, was remanded in April last year where he has remained.

He will next face court in April.
