Details of a sickening alleged assault have emerged as the man accused of attacking another with a golf club and leaving him fighting for his life faced court.

Travis James Williams Fuller, of Globe Derby Park, appeared by video link in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Friday charged with attempted murder and aggravated cause serious harm with intent, stemming from the April 22 incident at Elizabeth Downs.

Mr Fuller was at large for weeks, but it took just 18 hours between him being arrested to him facing Magistrate Brian Nitschke.

Police will allege a golf club was part of the alleged attack that hospitalised a 59-year-old Elizabeth Park, leading the serious harm charge upgraded to an aggravated offence.

Legal Aid duty solicitor Omar Ali, for 39-year-old Mr Fuller, made no application for bail.

No plea was entered to either charge.

The documents showed the victim of the alleged attack was David Pentland.

Mr Pentland was rushed to hospital following the alleged altercation where he remains in a critical condition.

In the aftermath of Mr Fuller’s arrest more than 30 State Emergency Service volunteers scoured Globe Derby Park and surrounds in search of evidence.

A police helicopter was also deployed in the area and nearby cars were raided.

The Advertiser earlier reported Mr Pentland’s friend John Henderson recounted hearing screaming as the alleged attack occurred.

A nearby neighbour said her son had investigated what was happening and was met by Mr Pentland in a “pretty bad” state and that he was “gargling”.

Mr Nitschke remanded Mr Fuller until his next court date in August.
