A father of three is being remembered as a man with a “heart of gold” after he was killed in a motorcycle crash in Paralowie this week.
Gerard Binek, a 32-year-old Elizabeth East man, died at the scene of the Vindana Rd crash on Tuesday.
A GoFundMe organised by his sister-in-law, Meegan Mitchell, said Mr Binek’s three children and partner needed support with funeral costs – especially with Christmas on the horizon.
“Gerard was a fun-loving, mischievous, cheeky young man with a heart of gold,” Ms Mitchell wrote.
“He absolutely loved being a father and adored his three boys. Gerard brought joy and happiness to so many people.
“We are all shocked by the sudden loss of Gerard and would love to give him the funeral he deserves, we also would love to allow Tereina and the boys to grieve their loss without worrying about everyday expenses. Gerard, may you rest in peace.”
Mr Binek’s life was the 77th lost on South Australian roads so far this year.
A neighbour near the scene of the crash said she ran outside after hearing a bang and a car horn to find Mr Binek laying in the road.
She said the incident had been “traumatising”.
Family and friends began posting tributes to Mr Binek sharing their memories and words capturing the mark he left on their life.
Kelly Lee Binek wrote that she was thankful for the 14 years of memories and said she would be there for her nephews.
“We got them, we will watch them grow and never let your memory fade!” Ms Binek wrote.
“My boys will always remember Uncle G, the play fights, the bickering, the accidental stealing for lollies and your giant hugs.
“I’ve got your brother, don’t worry, I'll help keep his head high for you and the village we have. Love you so much, now, then, forever and always my bro.”
Denise Miller commented on Ms Binek’s post that “words can never completely express your sorrow and pain, nor will anything we say make it better.”
“Remember him always and look after his little family.”
Gemma Martin posted that “it was a pleasure growing up with you, the big brother of the street!”
“Thanks for teaching me how to play pool when I was like 11 hahah! Rest peacefully Gerard Binek”
