A northern suburbs recycling centre once the subject of development controversy has lodged plans to expand its petrol station – and cut its recycling hours.
Plans submitted to Plan SA detail a proposal under which the St Agnes recycling centre and petrol station would reconfigure the existing building to upgrade the storefront, cashier space, coldroom and office.
The recycling centre on the corner of North East Rd and Hancock Rd would shrink slightly, while one of the site’s toilets would be demolished.
The operating hours for the recycling facility would be reduced by two hours every weekday.
The new opening hours would be 9am to 3pm weekdays and maintain the same operational hours, 9am to 1pm, on Saturdays.
The centre would reinstate the two former fuel bowers under the canopy, nearest the control building, which had been removed a number of years ago.
No changes to access and parking are proposed.
In 2022 former owner of the site, Emmanouel Pishas, won a state-first legal battle against the Tea Tree Gully Council.
The council at the time attempted to appeal Mr Pishas’ push for the site to become a recycling centre, which was approved by the State Commission Assessment Panel.
The site was listed for sale just under 12 months later and was sold.
The latest development application for the site is open for public consultation until Monday, November 25.
