In a fitting way to celebrate their 25 years in business, the Dittmar family of the Fabulous Baker Boys Bakery at Pooraka has been named the best in the north.
The bakery was crowned the winner in our latest Delicious Local poll, attracting more than 20 per cent of the vote.
It’s a true family business, run by husband and wife Paul and Bronwen Dittmar, with their daughter Danielle handling marketing and their son Joshua an apprentice baker.
In October this year, the family will celebrate the bakery’s 25th anniversary.
Living in the local area, Bronwen and Paul could see a gap in the local market when they opened up.
“There hadn’t been a bakery for as long as we lived here, so I though it’d be a great idea to approach the owners at the local shopping centre about opening one up,” Paul said.
The business has grown so much over the years that renovations were undertaken 12 months ago to extend the bakery.
“The extension means we’ve been able to add a sit-down breakfast, which has been a real success,” Paul said.
Paul said the bakery is known for its great pies including chunky potato and bacon, chilli cheese, and its sausage rolls.
“We’re also known for our doughnuts, we sell about 100 a day,” he said.
As well as the retail outlet, the Fabulous Baker Boys also supply eight football clubs and two soccer clubs with their goods, as well as the IGA at Quorn.
Paul said it was an honour to take out the win for best bakery in the north.
“It’s a great privilege,” he said.
Rounding out the top three places to grab a baked good out north were the Para Hills Hot Bread Bakery at Para Hills and Bryce’s Bakery at Golden Grove.
