Men brawl using a knife – against a guitar outside Elizabeth East convenience store

Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment two men face off; one armed with a knife, the other with a musical instrument. Watch the vision.

Peter Lam has been managing his Elizabeth East convenience store for more than two decades – but a violent incident out the front of it on Saturday made him feel the area is no longer safe.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the front of Mr Lam’s L & L Convenience Store on Spruance Rd after reports a 56-year-old man was approached by another man who allegedly attempted to stab him.

CCTV footage, obtained by The Advertiser, shows a man in a white T-shirt and cap, with a woman, speaking with another, older man holding a guitar.

The conversation appears to escalate before the man in the white T-shirt is seen attempting to kick the older man.

That man steps back and drops his guitar before the man in the white T-shirt is filmed stomping on the instrument, destroying it.

The physical altercation between the pair continues, with punches thrown, before the older man falls to the floor.

The man in the white T-shirt is then seen kicking the older man on the ground.

It continued off camera before passers-by broke up the scuffle.

The 56-year-old received minor injuries during the altercation and police have not yet been able to locate the suspect.

Mr Lam, 45, who was not present at the time of the incident, said issues near his store had “recently been getting worse”.

“It (violence) happens a fair bit,” the shop owner said.

Issues with drug use in the area had been “driving people crazy”.

“They’re hallucinating, they stand in the shop and they think there’s someone next to them talking to them,” Mr Lam said.

“Junkies make it a bad area and it’s not safe.

“It’s this ice, it ruins everyone.

“It’s sad but that’s the way it is.”

Mr Lam’s cigarette sales had dropped 70 to 80 per cent due to illegal tobacco supplied in the area, he said.

“It’s not fair,” the store owner said.

“I’m just trying to run an honest business.”

Mr Lam, who lives close by his store, said it was difficult “to see the community getting out of hand with outlaw people”.
