An Elizabeth Vale home-invasion victim won’t be charged with stabbing the intruder because he was acting in self-defence.

Police and ambulance crews were called to a house in Pasteur St about 1.45pm Saturday, May 14, after reports that a man had broken into the property.

A man at the property, 22, stabbed the intruder after he allegedly entered the home, where both his partner and young son were also present.

The 20-year-old injured man from Queensland was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious condition.

Once he was well enough to speak to police, he was reported for serious criminal trespass.

He may be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Following investigations, the resident was not charged after detectives were satisfied he was acting in self-defence.

“All parties involved in the matter have been advised of this decision by police,” a spokesperson said.

Jayden Weetra, a witness of the incident told 7NEWS the resident went into “full defensive mode” to protect his family.

Another neighbour, Milan Tsapa said he would have acted the same if he was faced with an intruder.

“If somebody breaks in to my house and threatens me and I could save my family, I would do anything to save my family.”
