A 31-year-old man who allegedly supplied a child with free drugs then performed sex acts on her has denied any predatory acts occurred.

David John Wakeling, of Medindie in Adelaide’s inner north dress-circle, pleaded not guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday to unlawful sexual intercourse and selling a controlled drug to a child.

During Mr Wakeling’s successful bail application in December, the court heard a 19-year-old witness – who had been dating the 16-year-old alleged victim – met Mr Wakeling online a few months prior.

“There were two prior occasions where the defendant attended at his home address and provided him with free drugs in exchange for sex acts,” the prosecutor said.

The court heard the witness was at home on November 19 when he messaged Mr Wakeling asking if he had weed, but Mr Wakeling replied he only had juice, known as fantasy.

“The victim then started messaging the defendant on the witness’s phone and agreed to certain sex acts in exchange for gear – the sex acts were for the defendant to shave the victim’s vagina then perform oral sex on her,” the prosecutor said.

The court heard Mr Wakeling attended the Klemzig house and allegedly provided fantasy to the witness and the alleged victim.

The court heard the witness allegedly saw Mr Wakeling shave his girlfriend’s vagina but passed out before the oral sex was performed.

The witness messaged Mr Wakeling about the allegations and told him they were going to report him to police.

The witness told police Mr Wakeling knew the alleged victim’s age as it had come up in conversation.

Mr Wakeling was granted home detention bail in December with a woman and her four-year-old child.

On Wednesday, Mr Wakeling was committed to the District Court for arraignment in October.
