Tea Tree Gully Council’s management of its annual Christmas Carols is unlikely to change despite an estimated 45,000 cramming into Modbury’s Civic Park on Sunday night.
The event was headlined by former local, singer Guy Sebastian, with tens of thousands flocking to Modbury for the state’s biggest carols.
Civic Park Carols routinely attracts about 40,000 each year but council staff and residents believe the “Sebastian factor” pulled in extra patrons compared with previous years.
However, some residents vented their anger on a Tea Tree Gully Facebook page that the special event should be made exclusively for locals with space at a premium.
One resident, Didi, said she didn’t go because it would be too crowded, adding: “I wish it was just for our council area.”
“Why do we pay for carols in our council area that so many don’t go to as it’s too packed?” Leanne asked.
“It’s packed every year. Just this year is extra packed,” Justin wrote.
The council’s manager of communications, Elissa Graves, said there was no chance of sectioning off parts of the park for local residents only.
“It’s an open park,” Ms Graves said.
“The event doesn’t stop for people because of council boundaries.
“It’s probably the smoothest event we’ve had from a police and security perspective.”

Mayor Kevin Knight said it was a “special night”, with big numbers because of Sebastian’s homecoming.
“We’re unlikely to get a day like that again,” Mr Knight said.
“It was a picture-perfect Adelaide day. An amazing crowd.”
The council estimated 45,000 people attended the event.
