A woman has been sentenced for joining in on a violent brawl between feuding groups after she saw men outnumbering her partner.
Brooke Louise Doran, 39, avoided a conviction in the Adelaide Magistrates Court for her role in the “retributive” affray.
Jennifer Stefanac, for Doran, previously told the court her client and her partner Christopher Ikin were having their car serviced at Donna Sell’s house on January 21, last year.
“Ms Sell received a phone call from her partner (Andrew Goulding) who had said that someone had tried to run him off the road,” she said.
Ms Stefanac said Ms Sell became hysterical – which was amplified as a result of them being victims of a prior home invasion in which Goulding was seriously injured.
The court heard Doran travelled with Ms Sell to support her while finding Goulding, alongside Ikin and Zachary John Gartside.
The group of five then arrived at Ronald Kirkbright’s Elizabeth Vale house, where the brawl took place.
CCTV footage of the affray was shown to the court.
Goulding can be seen entering the property yelling “come on, you fat f***,” before using a baseball bat to smash windows of a car in the driveway.
Mr Kirkbright, his co-accused, Jared Edward Ferdinands and others then came out from the house.
The court heard Doran threw a rock and a can during the three minute affray because she saw other men approaching and outnumbering Ikin.
Goulding was struck with a pole in the brawl, which broke his arm and he was taken to hospital.
The court heard the affray was allegedly followed by a shootout between cars on heavily populated Main North Rd, which didn’t involve Doran.
Doran, of Hillbank, pleaded guilty to affray.
Goulding, of Smithfield, pleaded guilty to property damage and affray and was handed a suspended sentence in January.
Ikin, of St Agnes, pleaded guilty to property damage, affray, and driving dangerously, which he was sentenced to 10 months jail for in December.
Gartside, of Hillbank, pleaded guilty to affray and possessing and discharging a firearm and was jailed for over three years earlier this month.
Ms Sell, of Smithfield, pleaded not guilty to affray, discharging a firearm and possessing a firearm.
Mr Kirkbright, of Elizabeth Vale, and Mr Ferdinands, of Elizabeth Grove, pleaded not guilty to property damage and discharging a firearm, while Mr Kirkbright also pleaded not guilty to driving dangerously and Mr Ferdinands pleaded not guilty to possessing an explosive device.
The trio will face trial next year.
Ms Stefanac told the court Doran was a mother-of-two who tragically had her partner pass away after a workplace accident.
The court heard Doran began dating Ikin in 2021 and didn’t know the other parties involved in the feud.
“The beef that was amongst these two parties was not Ms Doran’s beef,” Ms Stefanac said.
Magistrate Michael Barnett sentenced Doran to a $500, 18-month good behaviour bond.
Due to her employment in NDIS and aged care and limited role in the offending, a conviction was not recorded.
