Big projects coming in second half of the year for the northeast

Major projects promised in the state election will come to fruition, Minister Stephan Knoll says, but none will be happening soon.

$20 million Golden Grove Rd upgrade

Northeast residents will have to wait until the second half of this year for work to begin on two big-ticket election promises from the State Government.

However, a start time for other major pledges — including the opening of Hope Valley Reservoir to the public and a New Park ‘n’ ride in Golden Grove — remains unknown.

Work will begin on the $20 million upgrade of Golden Grove Rd in the second half of 2019 and be completed by June, 2020, weather permitting.

The Northeastern Weekly reported in February that a stage one start was expected within a few months.

It is aimed at improving safety and traffic flow between Park Lake Drive and One Tree Hill.

Transport Minister Stephan Knoll said at the time that stage two — from Park Lake Drive to south of the signalised intersection of Golden Grove Rd, The Grove Way and Yatala Vale Rd — would be completed after the North East Public Transport Study was released.

Mr Knoll told parliament last month the study “should arrive on my desk … within the next few weeks”.

Further details on the location of a New Park ‘n’ ride in Golden Grove are also expected to be announced in the study.

“(It will) obviously guide us with respect to the location of the Golden Grove park ‘n’ ride to get the best outcome for commuters,” acting Transport Minister David Speirs told the Northeastern Weekly in April.

The study will also explore the potential of extending the O-Bahn to Golden Grove.

Meanwhile, an upgrade of the SA District Netball Association centre’s car park in Golden Grove is expected to begin in December and be finished by the end of February.

The State Government tipped in $320,000 for the Tea Tree Gully Council-run project.

Netball association president John Adams said once the carpark was fixed more high-end courts would be installed to bring the venue up to Premier League standard.

But the start date on work for six multipurpose courts for tennis and netball at Tea Tree Gully sports hub — funded through a $345,000 election commitment — is unknown.

The state Labor MP for Wright, Blair Boyer, said there had been “lots of talk an no action” from the State Government in the northeast.
