When baby Lucas was born on April 3 his parents Patrick and Lisa Stabile weren’t sure when their family and friends would be able to meet him.
But the couple’s family and friends didn’t let social distancing rules dampen their celebration and organised a surprise 30 car convoy to drive past the couple’s Hampstead Gardens home.
As Mr and Mrs Stabile and two-year-old big sister Mila stood on the driveway with 10-day-old Lucas, family and friends drove past in their decorated cars with signs and gifts welcoming Lucas to the family.
“It was overwhelming and really special,” Mr Stabile says.
“It’ll be a moment we share with him at his 21st and tell him all about how he was born in the middle of a pandemic and that was how he met the family.
“I think it was almost more special and much more memorable than the usual having people come into the hospital one after the other.”
For Mrs Stabile – who spent the last six weeks of her pregnancy in isolation – the convoy was a welcome surprise.
“It was just what I needed after being isolated for 6 weeks, it really made my day,” she says.
“It was very worrying time to be pregnant and I was very scared about bringing a newborn baby into the world with all of this going on.
“So it’s hard to put into words how special all of this was and how much it meant to me to have everyone take an hour out of their day to do all of that for us and Lucas.”
